Windmoor Healthcare Adds Detox Program to Outpatient Service DepartmentCLEARWATER, Fla. – (May 18, 2010) – Windmoor Healthcare, a Psychiatric Solutions, Inc. (PSI) facility, is pleased to announce the addition of an Ambulatory Opiate Detox Program to its outpatient service department. Kevin Butler, M.D., who has been with Windmoor for 18 years, will supervise the program. The facility started accepting patients April 30. “The Ambulatory Detox Program is another example of PSI’s focus on cutting edge treatment modalities,” said Dr. Butler. The program is designed to treat individuals addicted to opiates and/or narcotics in a safe, medically supervised and confidential setting. The program’s two major components are medical management and therapy. The medical management portion is designed to provide clients with safe medical detoxification. It is time-limited, meaning the goal is to provide only short-term Suboxone, the primary medication, in conjunction with other medication required to ease symptoms and increase the possibility of long-term recovery. “This program is designed to meet the needs of our community,” said CEO Wendy Merson. “Many managed care companies are not authorizing inpatient detox from opiates. This program provides a safe, therapeutic option for individuals to be treated.” Prior to the initial treatment in the medical management component, each patient is assessed by the clinical team. The team is led by a psychiatrist, specifically trained and licensed to prescribe and administer Suboxone. A physician conducts a history and physical exam, and a licensed therapist completes a full psychosocial assessment. An addictions assessment, psychiatric evaluation and nursing exam are performed by the appropriately trained team members. The therapy component is designed to provide emotional support, as well as education on the chemical dependency disease process. Each patient participates in an individualized plan of care, including two daily therapy groups facilitated by a licensed therapist. Therapy topics include, but are not limited to, psychotherapy, addictive behaviors, relapse prevention, coping skills, self-esteem, medication education, diagnosis education and discharge planning. One-to-one and/or family therapy is conducted on an individual basis. Daily urine drug screens, vital signs and withdrawal assessments are performed, ensuring patient safety and comfort. Additional medical tests, including lab work, may also be ordered depending upon the individual needs of the client and the treating physicians.
